“Maxhosa by Laduma” is a South African brand created in 2011 by Laduma Ngxokolo who uses knitting as a witness to the legacy of the Xhosa people, who are one of the South African dominant ethnic groups.

One of Africa’s finest knitwear designer and innovator of the Xhosa people, Ngxokolo established the brand 2011 with a desire to explore knitwear design solutions that would be suitable for the amakrwala (Xhosa initiates) traditional dress. As a person who has undergone the ritual, he felt that he needed to develop a premium knitwear range that celebrates traditional Xhosa beadwork easthetics, using South African mohair and wool.

The Xhosa are known for their work of beading where they draw traditional patterns and patterns. MaXhosa, the brand, is an opportunity to celebrate the rich heritage of this culture.

The creations are modern, culturally relevant and rejuvenate the Xhosa aesthetics in any outfit. All production is knitted in South Africa with mohair, merino wool. The Xhosa are an ethnic group of South Africans who speak Xhosa and call themselves amaXhosa. Among the xhosa personalities are singer Miriam Makeba, former president Nelson Mandela, Archbishop Desmond Mpilo Tutu and former president Thabo Mbeki.
